Supreme Court sounds skeptical of lenders’ challenge to Obama-era consumer protection bureau

The Supreme Court gave a mostly skeptical hearing Tuesday to payday lenders who are challenging the constitutionality of the Obama-era consumer protection agency. Most of the justices suggested they were not ready to strike down the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau simply because it is funded with fees from the Federal Reserve rather than an annual appropriation.

The spirits that lurk in the Courthouse

The Kay County Courthouse has seen nearly a century of history within its storied halls. Standing four stories above the northern Oklahoma prairie, it is the pinnacle of the Newkirk skyline. The structure opened in 1926, and in only a few years, will celebrate its centennial anniversary. Many people have felt some form of presence, something they can’t explain, and many stories have been experienced within those hallowed walls, and some may have never left, as some who have worked in the Courthouse have felt a presence, something from another world, something that is still there, a haunting of the Courthouse.

There’s some exciting news for Po-Hi students and the 2024 CatTale yearbook with Legacy Studios being the new district photographer. Some things won’t change, however. At the high school, all students, faculty, and staff will continue to have their yearbook pictures taken at no cost. As always, a variety of different portrait packages are available for purchase.
