THE FINAL installment of the 2023 DXDT/First Friday event season has come and gone. Local band, Denim Armadillo played live music while those in attendance enjoyed the great music and wonderful vendors. Artists at the Sacket Gallery & Studio, as well as Red Dirt Rosie, both took home a $150 cash prize for winning in their respective categories in the “Chalk It Up” Art Festival. Kay County Extension welcomes Rolando as 4-H Educator

Rachel Rolando has a lifetime of experience in the 4-H program. Growing up on her family’s ranch in Colorado, she was immersed in livestock from a young age, exhibiting many swine and goat projects and winning numerous awards along the way. She is now bringing that expertise to the local program, as she begins her new role as the Kay County 4-H Educator.

Oklahoma Shootout fast draw event held Sept. 2

The World Fast Draw Association hosted a fast draw event on Saturday, Sept. 2 at 5250 N. Hilltop Rd. in Newkirk called the Oklahoma Shootout. This event is what is known as a vicechairman sanctioned contest, which are smaller regional contests compared to the larger chairman contests amongst World Fast Draw Association events.

Barn quilts hung in preparation for the Kay County Free Fair

In preparation for the annual Kay County Free Fair held every year during the second week of Sept, the Blackwell Public Power Department picked up new barn quilts from the Wonderfully Made Studio. People in the area come to Cindy Oard, owner of the Wonderfully Made Studio in Blackwell, to learn how to create barn quilts for their own homes during her classes.
