Lankford wants to stop supplying criminal cartels with guns and money coming from the US

WASHINGTON, DC – Senators James Lankford (R-OK) and Maggie Hassan (D-NH), both members of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, introduced the Enhancing Southbound Inspections to Combat Cartels Act to increase inspections of traffic going from the US to Mexico, which will help combat the flow of illicit firearms and money that fuel drug cartels.

June 8, 2023 Man with Weapon - At 2:55 am, the reporting party advised there was a male trying to break into their vehicle at 1515 W. Highland. The suspect pulled a gun out on the reporting party’s boyfriend and ran. Officer took Alex Ortiz, 2004, for pointing a firearm, use of firearm while committing a felony, public intoxication, carrying a concealed weapon, burglary third degree, use of a firearm while committing a felony, carrying a concealed weapon, receiving, possessing, or concealing a stolen vehicle, and Kay County warrants for conspiracy to commit a felony and burglary third degree.

SHAWNEE — State Attorney General Gentner Drummond has been on the job now for 20 weeks, and in that time he has been working on a renewed focus on transparency and government accountability. In his short time since taking office, he has made some big decisions that have sometimes put him at odds with some of state’s top elected leaders.

Regular Session Ends

As regular session came to an end, one of the highlights of the year was the opportunity for Senator Coleman and I to have the Lincoln Elementary School 5th-grade chorus with Amy Muegge from Ponca City perform in the Capitol rotunda. I’m so proud of these outstanding young people and their talent. It’s always great to have folks from the district visit the Capitol.
