Officer involved shooting in Blackwell on Mon., May 8

On Mon., May 8 at approximately 9:45 pm, the Blackwell Police Department received two calls in reference to a white male flagging down cars on Doolin Ave. and 29th St. The Blackwell PD responded to the call and arrived on scene where they encountered a male now identified as Michael Anthony Cook. When Officer Watters attempted to make contact with cook, cook raised his hand and began to shoot at him. Officer Watters fired one shot, which struck cook in his right foot. Cook then ran across the south parking lot of the Blackwell Animal Hospital to the property of the Southern Plains Livestock Auction and entered the trailer house. Cook refused to come out of the property when ordered to do so.

Oklahoma State Highway 156 project postponed till May 17

The project to replace a bridge box concrete drainage structure that was previously scheduled for Monday, 15, has postponed its start date till Wednesday, May 17 due to rain. The project will be located at Oklahoma State Highway 156, approximately four miles south of the US-60 junction, just north of the 101 Ranch and will result in a highway closure.

United Way Day of Caring held on May 13

United Way’s Day of Caring was held on Saturday, May 13 with various events and activities. Events began at 8:30 am with a Fun Walk at the Downtown Walking Trail, then from 9 am to 12 pm, a Community Health and Resource Fair was held in the City Central Summit Room, while a blood drive with Oklahoma Blood Institute (OBI).

PIE Partner Wrap-Up held on May 4

The PIE Partner Wrap-Up meeting was held on Thursday, May 4 at the Ponca City Public Schools (PCPS) Administration Building. The PIE (Partners in Education) program has been going on for about 30 years in Ponca City and is operated by the Chamber of Commerce, from whose member businesses are partnered with the schools, both public and private, in Ponca City area.

Another week down with only two remaining to our constitutional deadline on May 26. As of Thursday, there had been no movement on the education stalemate and, therefore, no developments on the state budget. We’ll see what the new week brings but I’m looking forward to running bills.

May 10, 2023 Suspicious Person/Vehicle - At 2:40 am, the reporting party requested an officer to check the area in reference to hearing someone opening their garage and trying to get into the residence at 1513 N. 7th. The reporting party was able to re-secure the garage.
