US economy cools with easing inflation, higher jobless claims

Applications for unemployment benefits climbed to a more than one-year high and wholesale inflation continued to moderate, adding to signs of softening in the economy. The producer price index for final demand increased 2.3% in April from a year ago, the slowest pace since early 2021 and extending a year-long easing tied to falling commodities costs and improved supply chains.

The pair had just arrived by bus from the Mexican state of Guerrero, each carrying small, stuffed backpacks, after a gang burned down their house and threatened to kill the woman.

Meals will be provided to the children without charge ages 1-18 and are the same for all children regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability, and there will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service. House panel moves to block Biden student loan forgiveness plan WASHINGTON — Republicans on a key House committee Wednesday took another step to block President Joe Biden’s student debt forgiveness program. During a markup of the joint resolution of disapproval, GOP lawmakers on the Committee on Education and the Workforce argued that the Department of Education’s student loan relief plan would add billions to the federal debt while doing nothing to address the rising cost of college.
