Free Speech Needs Muscle

Body
Officials at Stanford University could learn something from the New York City Police Department about defending free speech while maintaining order. When hecklers prevented an invited speaker from addressing an audience at Stanford’s law school, what could have been a peaceful protest turned into an act of verbal violence. It’s easier to stop people from crossing these boundaries when you’ve established boundaries.

Dear Annie

Body
Dear Annie: I have been a practicing attorney for six years. My current job as an in-house attorney was my first job out of law school. My employer was taking a big risk on me, as in-house positions are usually given to attorneys who have already done their time in big firms. My boss said that she saw a lot of potential in me, and even though she knew it would take more time to train me, she thought it was worth it.

How to Weather Spring Storms Using Green Infrastructure at Home

Body
Spring storm season is here, and storms are definitely wreaking havoc. Last month my son’s school was canceled due to severe weather. Though I’m accustomed to snow days, it was the first time I’ve ever experienced a “storm day.” Storms are not only worrisome because of the damage they cause, but also because many city sewer systems are not capable of handling the excess water.

Dear Annie

Body
Dear Annie: When I was in high school, a friend of one of my brothers had a crush on me. I’ll call him “Kurt.” He was nice and funny, had his own car and treated me to a lot of cool things (concerts, restaurants, etc.). I was never attracted to him romantically and told him that frequently. I really enjoyed his friendship, but that was it. If Kurt became too aggressive, my brother (Ethan) would talk to him, and he would back off.

Who’s Really Undermining the Rule of Law?

Body
You hear it said in responsible quarters of the right that Democrats are undermining the rule of law by handing up an indictment of Donald Trump. Sure, they acknowledge, Trump has done terrible things, but by bringing this case, Democrats are twisting the law to get at one particular defendant, and that’s not the way things should work. Further, they argue, Democrats are inviting retaliatory lawsuits in the future and setting America on the path to banana republic status. These abuses, they urge, are just as dangerous, or perhaps more dangerous than what Republicans are saying and doing in Trump’s defense.
