Oct. 1—The day after catching Cardinals great Adam Wainwright’s final game of an 18-year, 200-win career, Willson Contreras found a gift waiting for him in the clubhouse. The jersey he wore during Wainwright’s seven shutout innings for the milestone had been lifted from his locker and signed by the veteran right-hander with a long, personal message written near Contreras’ No. 40.

LOS ANGELES — Jaxson Hayes had to slam on the brakes. The Lakers’ new center was speaking to the media after the team’s third practice of training camp when he saw LeBron James catch a lob and throw down a ferocious dunk.

Chicago Bears wide receiver DJ Moore ran 8 yards up the left sideline and then abruptly turned around to look at quarterback Justin Fields on Thursday night at FedEx Field. As the football sailed toward Moore, Washington Commanders cornerback Kendall Fuller tried to jump in front and make a play, but Moore leaped up behind him and grabbed the pass out of the air.

OWASSO-- The Ponca City Lady Cats softball season came to an end Wednesday as they were eliminated in the Class 6A Regional Tournament with a 5-3 loss to Bartlesville. The Lady Cats season ends with them having posted a 21-13 overall record.

Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid wasn’t in much of a mood Wednesday to discuss any potential struggles with his team’s offense. That included when he was asked about second-year receiver Skyy Moore, who had no catches in Sunday’s win against the Jets — the second time in four games this season the Chiefs’ 2022 second-round pick went without a reception.

JENKS -- The Ponca City Lady Cats volleyball varsity has been assigned to the Class 6A Regional Tournament in Jenks. The Lady Cats are scheduled to play the host Jenks team at 4:30 p.m.
