Fair Board seeks new members, volunteers for County Fair

County fairs are a time of excitement for communities across the country, a time of celebration of what makes their communities and culture their own. That is definitely true in Kay County, and the annual fair has been held more than 100 years. There are troubles with the program, however, as the Fair Board is seeing a lack of board members and volunteers, making it increasingly difficult to hold the fair. The Board is now reaching out to Kay County communities for new board members and volunteers to keep the program successful in the future.

Mental health resources available to students

Ponca City Public Schools (PCPS) will be back in session on Thursday, Aug. 24, and with that comes a variety of feelings and concerns from students. With the start of school can come many stresses, anxieties and other feelings. Mental health is just as important as physical health, and mentally healthy students are more likely to go to school ready to learn, engage in activities, use appropriate problem-solving skills, and have nonaggressive behaviors1.

Over the last month, evidence of WNV activity has increased across the state and is now considered to be widespread.

Newkirk Chamber seeks vendors for Charlie Adam’s Day

Charlie Adams Day has long been a popular festival in Kay County, as Newkirk promotes one of the community’s most colorful members. The festival has many facets, from entertainment and food to history, car shows and a fair-like atmosphere of vendors booths. The Chamber is seeking vendors for the 2023 event in what is hoped to be the most popular Charlie Adam’s Day yet.

Staff Numbers include: 30 from Ponca City; 34 from outside of a Ponca City zip code; 3 from Kansas; 3 from California; New employees from Moore, Duncan, Glencoe, Yukon, Durant, Stillwater (4), Norman, Oklahoma City, Weatherford (3), Bethany and Guthrie. Police seek assistance in identifying suspects

On 07/12/23, two unidentified males and an unidentified female entered Walmart in Ponca City and used a stolen credit card to purchase several hundred dollars worth of items. The credit card used to purchase the items was stolen from a vehicle at the Native Lights Casino earlier in the evening. The stolen credit card was also used at several other businesses to make fraudulent purchases in Ponca City. Officers were able to determine that the same unidentified suspects using the stolen credit card in Ponca City are the same individuals who originally stole the credit card from a vehicle at Native Lights Casino .
