Every Litter Bit Hurts, Litter Education 2023 kicks off on August 21st

(August 18, 2023) — Every Litter Bit Hurts and the Keep Oklahoma Beautiful (KOB) Litter Education program is working hard to spread that message to Oklahoma students in public, private, and parochial institutions, as well as those who are home-schooled. Participants from extracurricular activities outside of school settings are also encouraged to participate!

Mosquito surveillance pools across the state still test positive for WNV activity OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma State Department of Health (OSDH) is reporting the first human infections in 2023, caused by West Nile Virus (WNV). Over the last month, evidence of WNV activity has increased across the state and is now considered to be widespread.

Mental health resources available to students

Ponca City Public Schools (PCPS) will be back in session on Thursday, Aug. 24, and with that comes a variety of feelings and concerns from students. With the start of school can come many stresses, anxieties and other feelings. Mental health is just as important as physical health, and mentally healthy students are more likely to go to school ready to learn, engage in activities, use appropriate problem-solving skills, and have nonaggressive behaviors1.

Fair Board seeks new members, volunteers for County Fair

County fairs are a time of excitement for communities across the country, a time of celebration of what makes their communities and culture their own. That is definitely true in Kay County, and the annual fair has been held more than 100 years. There are troubles with the program, however, as the Fair Board is seeing a lack of board members and volunteers, making it increasingly difficult to hold the fair. The Board is now reaching out to Kay County communities for new board members and volunteers to keep the program successful in the future.
