Concerns, questions, and tensions mount around new OHP tribal tag enforcement

Last week, an Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) trooper ticketed a tribal citizen with a current Otoe-Missouria Tribe license plate for failing to pay state taxes. The citizen was initially pulled over for speeding near Enid, before then being issued a $249 traffic citation for failing to pay state taxes on their motor vehicle, because they did not live on tribal land.

Nov. 11, 2023 Reckless Driver - At 5:20 am, the reporting party requested an officer in reference to a gray pickup that drove through a bard wire fence at Lake and Pecan. The reporting party was a passerby. Subject was still driving through the field. Officer #20 took Collier Lively, 2006, into custody for DUI, obstruction of investigation, and carrying firearms while under the influence.
