West Nile Virus identified in Kay County mosquito pool

The Oklahoma State Department of Health’s mosquito surveillance program has detected West Nile Virus (WNV) activity in Kay County. This surveillance programs occurs across multiple counties in Oklahoma, trapping and testing mosquitos weekly to check for any signs of WNV. A positive mosquito pool means that there is an enhanced risk of exposure to WNV in the area. As such, prevention is key, and preventing mosquito bites is the most effective form of protection from WNV.

Kay County 4-H enrollment opens tonight

Kay County has a strong 4-H program, with members from Newkirk, Tonkawa, Blackwell, and Ponca City learning many life skills that they will take with them the rest of their lives. Those wanting to learn what 4-H has to offer, or simply wanting to continue in the program as members, will be able to learn more information during enrollment for the new 4-H year.
