For a certain type of action movie fan, it’s the most wonderful time of the year: January pulp trashterpiece season. Last year, that slot was occupied by the lean, mean flying machine “Plane,” starring Gerard Butler; this year, it’s the off-brand “John Wick” ripoff “The Beekeeper,” starring Jason Statham and directed by David Ayer.
On Saturday, Jan. 13, The Hideaway Bar and Grill is bringing in a highly anticipated live performance for those in attendance. The Addison Lea Thompson Band is one that has begun to make a name for themselves over the past few years and is now sitting on the Texas Radio Top 100 Charts with the hit song “Throw My Ashes In The Wind.” According to his website, music has been a part of Thompson’s life for as long as he could remember.
Ponca Playhouse announces the third show of their 65th Season with the modern production Mr. Burns: A Post-Electric Play, by Anne Washburn. Director Sam Stuart says, “I don’t think the Playhouse has done anything like it, and I’m excited to see the audience’s response to it.” Stuart emphasizes the themes of storytelling and community.
Throughout the weekends of Jan. 12 through 14 and 19 through 21, the Evans Children’s Academy of Performing Arts will be presenting their rendition of the musical by Irving Berlin, “Annie Get Your Gun”, to the people of Ponca City.

Three “Strangers” movies, two Kevin Costner sagas, one more “Mad Max” adventure. Oh my! Those titles — and many more! — are on the bill for 2024, a movie year that looks to thrill moviegoers with plenty of familiar properties and even some original fare.
