OKLAHOMA CITY  -- The Ponca City Lady Cats pulled off an impressive victory Friday night over the Bishop McGuinness Fighting Irish, but the Ponca City boys team had difficulty getting untracked and lost its game.

The Lady Cats defeated McGuinness 65-45, an impressive margin of victory over a team that was 18-3 coming into Friday's game and highly ranked in Class 4A circles.

The Wildcat boys team hung relatively close in the first half, but things went south in the second half as it was beaten 72-50.

The Po-Hi girls had a good night shooting the ball, hitting 19 of 22 free throws and 10 of 15 attempts from behind the three-point line.  The Lady Cats led 13-9 after one quarter, 33-21 at the half and 52-36 after three quarter.  At the start of the game it was a three-point shooting contest as both teams hit three treys in the first quarter.  McGuinness ended the night having hit nine from behind the arc.

Baylee Fincher led the Lady Cat scoring with 24 points.  Ryley Beard, with 18 and Ashlynn Fincher, with 12, also scored in double figures.  Baylee Fincher had four of Ponca City's treys, Beard had three, Ashlynn Fincher had two and Karis Branstetter had one.

The win boosts the Lady Cats' record  to 16-6. They have won six in a row.

The boys were within nine points at the half trailing 32-23.  But a series of turnovers allowed McGuinness to go on a few runs and build its lead to more than 20 points.

Anthony Gazaway led the Wildcats in scoring with 15 points. Steven Faulkner, who had seven points in the first quarter, finished with 10.

The Wildcats now are 9-13 for  the year.

Next will be games against Shawnee on Friday. The venue is yet to be determined.
