In a low scoring contest, the Ponca City WIldcats dropped a 1-0 decision to the Guthrie Blue Jays Thursday at the Po-Hi baseball field.

There were only three hits in the game, all garnered by Guthrie. The Blue Jays scored their lone run in the third inning. With two outs a single and a Ponca City error led to the run.

Pitching very well for the Wildcats were Corey Marazas and Hunter Freeman. Marazas started and pitched the first four innings. Freeman came in to pitch in the fifth and pitched the final three frames. Marazas allowed four hits while striking out three and walking three. The Guthrie run came on Marazas' watch but was unearned. Freeman allowed one hit while striking out two and walking two in three innings.

The Wildcats had their opportunities to score. In the fourth inning Ponca City had two runners on base. Brody WIcker was hit by a pitch and Carson Williams drew a base on balls. In the fifth inning, the Wildcats had two runners as Hunter Freeman and Collier Lively both reached base. In the sixth, again the Wildcats had two runners as Grant Harmon walked and Brett Haney reached on an error.

Guthrie's starting pitcher Josh Rains struck out 11 Wildcats.

In the seventh, Ponca City again had a chance to tie as Nate Harbeson drew a twoout walk. But a fly ball to the outfield ended the threat and the game.

The loss drops Ponca City's record to 2-1. The Wildcats opened the season on Monday with a doubleheader sweep over Muskogee.
