After the kidnapping of 4 Americans, Mexico’s president blasts US demand for drugs

MEXICO CITY — As investigators continued their search for the gunmen who kidnapped four Americans in the border city of Matamoros last week, Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador lashed out at Republican U.S. lawmakers who have proposed sending troops into Mexico, telling them that the United States should concentrate on curbing its rampant appetite for illegal drugs.

BPA students attend conference

Ponca City High School’s Business Professionals of America (BPA) attended the Oklahoma BPA State Leadership Conference March 6-8. Our state qualifiers attending were Marshall Blackstar, Andi Massey, Lorin Scott, Rachel Lawson, the Broadcast Production Team of Ethan Meyer, Madison Thibodeaux, Dylan Nance and Amanie Owdetallah and the Podcast Production Team of Tynli Nickell, Angel Garcia, Riley Ladner and Toby McDaniel. Also attending were Abigale Lowrey and Robert Leonard.

Local shelters struggle to stay afloat

If you would have told Animal Control Officer, ACO, Cindy Yinger five years ago what she would have to see and do at her job everyday, she more than likely wouldn’t believe you. Before taking the job at Blackwell Animal Control, she worked at a local veterinary clinic. They worked closely with Animal Control and the previous ACO, John Gerian, came to her when he was in the process of retiring and asked her if she would be interested in the position. He believed that she had what it took to not only handle the job, but excel at it. As it turns out, he was right. Five years later, ACO Yinger has made a name for herself as someone who cares deeply for the animals and has earned a lot of respect in the community of Blackwell and the surrounding towns for her generosity and ferocity when protecting those without a voice.
