Extraordinary nurses recognized at AllianceHealth Ponca City

Body
PONCA CITY, Okla. –– Nurses at AllianceHealth Ponca City are being honored with The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses . The award is part of the DAISY Foundation’s mission to recognize the extraordinary, compassionate nursing care they provide patients and families every day. The DAISY Foundation is a not-for-profit organization, established in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, by members of his family. Patrick died at the age of 33 in late 1999 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), a little known but not uncommon auto-immune disease. (DAISY is an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune System.) The care Patrick and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patient families.

Ponca City welcomes racers for motocross finals

Body
On a warm Sunday afternoon, a loud buzz is heard emanating from the Ponca City motocross racetrack. Despite heavy rains from storms the night before, kids are still able to weave through the mud and muck, around curves and flying over jumps. Around the racetrack, families are camped out for the event, one that truly has a festive feeling. More than 800 racers would hit the dirt and mud that weekend, as Ponca City hosted the Ponca City South Central Youth Regional Championship June 17 – 18, with winners competing for the national championship in only a few weeks.

Adoptable Pets

Body
There are two cats of the week this week, featuring sisters Fireball and Licorice. These two ladies and their other littermates came to Northern Oklahoma Humane Society as kittens and were unfortunately affected by an outbreak of ringworm. After fighting off ringworm as babies, the litter came out with a clean bill of health. A number of the litter were adopted out, but these two are still under the care of NOKHS. Licorice was adopted out as well, but to no fault of her own she was returned. These babies are incredibly sweet, but they are also very shy, so it takes awhile for them to warm up to people. Once they do though, they are very loving. These two ladies have been with the humane society since January 2, and they are looking for their forever homes.
