The Mayors Council of Oklahoma unanimously approved a resolution to recognize National Gun Violence Awareness Day during June 2 to June 4 by issuing proclamations and encouraging people to wear the color orange during the weekend.

30th Annual Herb Festival set for Saturday, June 3

The 30th Annual Ponca City Herb Festival is set for Saturday, June 3 at the Cann Memorial Botanical Gardens, starting at 8 am. The Ponca City Herb Festival is held on the first Saturday in June each year with free admission, the event is Kay County’s longest running plant and craft festival and draws in more than 100 vendors from Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas, Colorado, and Arkansas.

On Fri., May 26 the United States Postal Service of Ponca City unveiled a new stamp in honor of Chief Standing Bear. Chief Standing Bear was a member of the Ponca tribe, who lived in the Niobrara River Valley in what is now known as northeastern Nebraska. Chief Standing Bear has become a staple and symbol of Ponca City and the Ponca Tribe.
