HANDBELL CONCERT TO BE HELD Prairie Carillon, the newly formed northern Oklahoma’s community handbell choir, will be presenting a concert of Patriotic music on July 2nd at 6:00pm in the sanctuary of First Christian Church located at 210 N. 5th St. in Ponca City. Joining the choir will be the Federated Music Club Ukulele group who will present a set of Cowboy Ballads. This will be a great way to begin your Fourth of July holiday! Public is invited and there is no charge.

Supreme Court upholds adoption law seeking to protect Native American children

WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court on Thursday upheld the landmark federal adoption law that seeks to keep Native American children with tribal families. By a 7-2 vote, the justices rejected a constitutional challenge from a white Texas couple and Texas state attorneys who contended the adoption preferences for Native Americans amounted to unconstitutional discrimination based on race.

North Korea fires ballistic missiles, warns the US on drills

North Korea test-fired two shortrange ballistic missiles Thursday in its first such launch in about two months, which came after it failed in late May to put a spy satellite into orbit. The missiles were launched as the US and South Korea ended live-fire drills this week near the border with North Korea, which were overseen by South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol and drew the ire of Kim Jong Un’s regime.

Beat the Heat, Check the Backseat

With temperatures rising, it is important to remember the national weather service’s slogan, ‘Beat the Heat, Check the Backseat.’ With the summer heat right around the corner and a high of 95 degrees next week, the threat of heatstroke and heat related fatalities is imminent. According to the National Safety Council, an average of 38 children under the age of 15 years old die each year from heatstroke after being left in a vehicle. There is an even higher number of animals whose lives have been lost to this exact thing. According to PETA there were 54 animals who died of heat related deaths and another 469 that were rescued from these situations, which are just the ones that were reported. In 2023, there have already been 16 animal deaths and 63 saves.
