State’s largest tribes split over status of descendants of their former slaves

WASHINGTON – Oklahoma’s five largest tribes on Wednesday spilt on their willingness to comply with terms of treaties signed more than 150 years ago regarding descendants of their former slaves. “They’re going through a long conversation happening among the tribes that is resolved in the Cherokee Nation that is not resolved in others,” said U.S.

PonCon Micro-Fiction and Graphic Novel Contest opens August 1

This fall, from Oct. to Nov. Pon- Con will be fun for the whole family. There will be an animated film screening, food trucks, a Geek Garage sale, and Micro-Fiction and Graphic Novel Contests. The contests open Aug. 1 and close Oct. 15 and there are three different age categories for them both. Winners will be announced at the Geek Garage sale. Friends of the Library will be offering $150 and a $50 prize and Ponca City Art Association will give prizes for the Graphic Novel.

Biden says we’re ‘on the right path’ after economy shrinks for second straight quarter

President Joe Biden insisted the country is “on the right path” on Thursday even after the economy shrank for the second straight quarter and inflation rages at a nearly 40-year high. Taking credit for record job growth, Biden said the slowing economy was actually a sign of a healthy cooling down after the postpandemic boom that helped trigger global price increases.
