Apr. 28—NEW YORK — Sonny Gray has been the ace the Cardinals needed so far this season, and on Saturday the club provided him with the run support he needed to work around a tough inning. A four-run frame didn’t sink the ship as the Cardinals stayed afloat long enough to register their third consecutive win.
The Ponca City Wildcats ended the regular season Saturday with a 1-0 shutout victory over Putnam City Original at the Po-Hi baseball field. The game was Senior Day, and eight seniors were recognized at the game.
The Ponca City baseball Wildcats will be playing Tuesday morning in the Class 6A Regional Tournament in Stillwater. The Wildcats drew the host Stillwater Pioneers and are scheduled to play at 11 a.m.
The Ponca City Country Club will be the site of the Class 6A West Regional Golf Tournament on Wednesday. Golfers from 15 schools will be participating.
