Sharon Brockmann, 54-yearold resident of Guymon, Oklahoma, passed away Saturday, February 26, 2022, at Northwest Texas Hospital due to complications with cancer.

Sharon’s family lived in Bogotá, Colombia, from the time she was in 6th grade through 11th grade. Her passion for studying languages and for supporting diversity grew from her experiences in South America. She graduated from Tascosa High School, Amarillo, Texas, in 1985. She then attended West Texas State University, from which she earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1989. In 2014 Sharon earned a Master of Education in Instructional Design and Technology from West Texas A&M University, where she also completed graduate coursework in English in Spring 2019. In addition, she earned certification in Spanish and ESL.

Sharon met her husband Tom at college, and on July 15, 1987, they married.

Sharon began her teaching career at the high school in Hearne, Texas, in 1992. In 2011, Sharon began her service to Seward County Community College. Sharon relished teaching at the College, where she consistently promoted diversity through committee service and course design. She received the 2019 NISOD (National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development) Excellence Award and took pride in teaching, especially those students who were learning English as an additional language and those who were non-traditional. Her influence continues through the support she gave her students and the encouragement she gave to colleagues, particularly while she was lead English instructor.

Sharon was an active member of the Guymon Lions Club and looked forward each year to staffing the Pioneer Days train ride and other projects. Her enthusiasm for creativity and performance was expressed in Community Theater and in the support of her children in various performances. Sharon attended the Victory Memorial United Methodist Church and shared the joy of her faith through performance with the hand bell choir.

Sharon lived with Tom in Guymon for more than 12 years. As she faced recent health challenges and her appetite waned, his continuing support was shown in many ways, such as the homemade soup he prepared for her and that she often complimented to others. They were grateful to have the children with them over Christmas and to share those precious days together.

Sharon is survived by her husband, Tom, of the home; son, Charles Brockmann; twins, Brice Brockmann and Carol O’Brien; the chosen son, Brendan Barnes; one brother, Ryan White; her father, Elmer White; and numerous aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, and cousins. Sharon was preceded in death by her mother, Kay White, and sister, Ruth White.

Sharon is survived by a network of colleagues, students, and friends.

Memorial service will be held on March 12th at 2:00 pm at Victory Memorial United Methodist Church in Guymon. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the American Cancer Society.
