Charlene Thornton was welcomed into Heaven and embraced in the arms of our Savior on the morning of January 1, 2023. She was 77 years old.

Charlene was born on February 12, 1945 in Ponca City, Oklahoma to her parents Lonnie and Gladys Epperson. A lifelong resident of Ponca City, she graduated from Ponca City High School in 1963.

Charlene had a passion for angels and family who surrounded her as she gained her angel wings.

Charlene met the love of her life, George Thornton while a young teenager. They were married on February 16, 1963. Truly, a match made in heaven their journey together lasted 64 years until Charlene’s death on January 1, 2023.

From the beginning of their marriage, Charlene was a dedicated wife and mother. Whether from home or sport stadiums Charlene demonstrated how to support, love, and encourage her family. Charlene was always a selfless person who always greeted others with a smile and a hug while always helping and caring for all who entered her life.

In addition to angels and family, Charlene also loved watching and supporting her children and later grandchildren and great-grandchildren play their many sports and activities.

Of all her endeavors, she will be remembered for her sweet spirit, selfless acts of kindness, and compassion for others. I She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to countless others.

She was preceded in death by her father, Lonnie B Epperson; her mother, Gladys Epperson; son, Michael Joe Thornton; in laws, Francis and Anna Mae Thornton; and brothers, Pete, Howard, Lonnie, Sterling, Charles, Leonard, and Ernie Epperson.

She is survived by her husband, George Thornton; daughters, Debbie Haun and Husband, Sharon Belair; son, Gerry Thornton and Wife; 8 grandchildren, Ashley Pemberton, Brandy Rinas, Amber Lara, Aaron Belair, Alisha Pemberton, Dillon Belair, Angie Pemberton, and Donna Beard; 15 great grandchildren; sisters, Ella, Dora, Martha, and Laura; brother, Ralph; and countless extended family and friends.

Her Celebration of Life will be held in Newkirk at Wildwood Weddings & Event Center, 6500 W Dry Rd., Newkirk, OK 74647 on February 5, 2023.
