First Fridays came to Ponca City this year and in the past few months, they have been a smashing success. First Friday is a wonderful way to stop and appreciate the city that we reside in and the people that inhabit it. At this event, there is something for everyone with the good food, amazing entertainment, even better people, and much more. The ones behind the curtains and pulling the strings to make all of this possible, are the ones to thank. First Fridays is a collaboration being cosponsored by City Arts, Ponca City Main Street, Ponca City Chamber of Commerce, Ponca City Arts& Humanities Council, and the City of Ponca City.

Community Health Foundation of Kay County hosted a free event for parents and guardians in Kay County to discuss the use of vapes and marijuana in adolescents on Tuesday, Aug. 8 at 6:30 pm at Pioneer Technology Center (PTC) in Ponca City.

Petsense Ponca City has been a long time supporter for local animal shelters, especially the Northern Oklahoma Humane Society. Through different food drives, hosting adoption events, holding some of their cats for better chances of adoption, and more, they have shown time and time again that they are doing whatever they can to help homeless pets in the area find the family they deserve.

Ponca City Rotary recently presented Elijah Mendiola with a Rotary badge designating him as a “Future Rotarian”. Elijah’s parents, Darrell and Angela Mendiola, are both members of the Ponca City Rotary club, and Darrell will be the club’s president in 2024-2025.

President Joe Biden stopped short of saying he would declare a national climate emergency, a move progressive lawmakers and activists have urged, while calling global warming an “existential threat.”
