Over 22,000 dead after Turkey and Syria quake amid global aid effort
ISTANBUL/DAMASCUS — The death toll from an earthquake that devastated wide swathes of the Turkey-Syria border region reached over 22,000 by Friday, as a search for survivors continued despite dwindling hope.
Some 19,338 people had died in Turkey alone, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said.
