STILLWATER, Okla. – The number of children who are overweight or obese is a major public health concern. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Division of Nutrition, Physical Activity and Obesity helps shed light on this issue by sponsoring National Childhood Obesity Month in September.

The individuals selected to be inducted into the 2023 Ponca City High School Alumni Hall of Fame induction ceremony have been selected. The inductees are; Mike McGraw, class of 1978, Carol Stauffer (class of 1998), Mary Young Frates, (class of 1958), Chris LittleCook, (class of 1978) and Lou Clinton, (class of 1955).

OKLAHOMA CITY – Rep. Ken Luttrell, R-Ponca City, along with over 40 Oklahoma House of Representatives members, traveled to Normandy, France, to attend the National Conference of State Legislatures’ Executive Leadership Development program.

There’s some exciting news for Po-Hi students and the 2024 CatTale yearbook with Legacy Studios being the new district photographer. Some things won’t change, however. At the high school, all students, faculty, and staff will continue to have their yearbook pictures taken at no cost. As always, a variety of different portrait packages are available for purchase.

In a new study, researchers found that regularly drinking sugar-sweetened beverages was associated with a significantly increased incidence of liver cancer and death from chronic liver disease. The study involved nearly 100,000 postmenopausal women.

This week’s pet of the week is the gorgeous girl you see pictured above with the absolutely hilarious name, Beefy Five Layer. For the sake of this section, Beefy Five Layer will be referred to as Beef. Beef is a two-year-old domestic longhair that is a newer member of the Northern Oklahoma Humane Society family. This beautiful lady stood out, not only because of her striking looks, but because of her amazing personality. Within minutes of meeting Beef, it was clear that her personality would surprisingly be the most memorable aspect of her. Honestly, Beef is a hilarious cat. She loves to be loved and lets her disappointment be known when she is not receiving the attention that she deserves. She does not act aggressive in any way, nor does she meow or cause much noise. Instead, she lays down, gives you a glare, and seemingly pouts until she gets her way. Once she is satisfied with the amount of pets she has received, Beef will spend her time napping in your arms. Beef is looking for her forever home and can’t wait to find the family that will give her the attention she feels she deserves.
