Katelyn Mantz has been selected as the Community Health Foundation’s May Healthcare Professional of the Month. Katelyn is a new LPN for Alliance Health OBGYN where she recently relocated. Prior to this role, she was an LPN for Dr. Jeff Northcutt since 2015. Katelyn was nominated by Amanda Cremers who said that Katelyn is “literally a beam of sunshine.” Amanda went on to say that Katelyn is always “kind, respectful and patient. She isn’t only nice she is an exceptional nurse. You can rest assured you are in extremely competent hands if she is taking care of you. She is extremely professional…and I’ve never met such a kind soul, skilled worker, empathetic, comforting, down to earth person.”

Katelyn grew up in Newkirk and graduated from Newkirk High School in 2009. After that she obtained an Associate’s Degree at Cowley College and then graduated nursing school from the Pioneer Technology Center in 2015. Katelyn wasn’t sure that she wanted to be in the medical field when she first went to college. She had planned to major in the arts and travel the country and world as an artist. After encouragement from her mom, local nurse practitioner Brenda Peters, Katelyn decided to give a career in the medical field a try. Katelyn worked in the pediatric clinic in Ponca City in high school and college. She loved interacting with the patients and caring for them and knew that nursing was something she wanted to do.

Katelyn shared that she started her nursing career fresh out of LPN school with Dr. Northcutt. She said that the nurses in labor and delivery knew Dr. Northcutt was looking for a nurse and informed her teacher, Ms. Veal, to tell Katelyn to apply. Katelyn says that she took that opportunity and never regretted her decision. She states that “I am the person I am today because of how I was raised in a very loving, family-oriented home and also because Dr. Northcutt was a great mentor. I love getting to know patients, being personal with them, and making them feel comfortable in their surroundings, just as I would want to be treated. What I do is very rewarding and I am very glad my mother persuaded me into this career path.”

Katelyn has a lot of family that live in the area and they love to spend time together. She and her husband, Kelly Mantz, enjoy time outdoors at the lake or on their new patio they built last year. Katelyn is also an incredible baker with fancy cakes as her specialty.

Congratulations to Katelyn Mantz! If you are interested in nominating an outstanding healthcare professional in Kay County from any healthcare specialty, the Community Health Foundation would love to hear about your nominee. A nomination form is available on the Foundation website at chfofpc.org and each monthly winner will be awarded with $100 in Ponca City Chamber Bucks.
