May 11—CHICAGO — It did not take long Wednesday night for the Cardinals’ Jordan Montgomery to realize his change-up and curveball had abandoned him and all he could do was make the most of the pitches he had left.
Although the 2022-23 school year sports at Ponca City High School are coming to a close, an event that marks the beginning of a new sports year is scheduled to take place at Sullins Stadium next week. The event is the annual Spring Football drills, which Head Coach Scott Harmon notes will begin Monday.
May 11—Oklahoma centerfielder Jayda Coleman showed no signs of slowing down to open up the season coming off two impressive campaigns to begin her career. It took 35 games before Coleman failed to reach base at any point in a game this season.
Ponca City High School athlete Gabe Roland was named the first-ever recipient of a newly created “Iron Man” award and was honored this week. The award is to be given to athletes who have lettered in fall, winter and spring sports for the full four years of their high school career.
Anthony Davis wasn’t even looking when Andrew Wiggins rose off the floor and stuffed home the missed Draymond Green layup. Chase Center erupted as Davis looked for a goaltending whistle that never came, the Lakers’ star center meekly walking back to the bench while all the Warriors fans surrounding him celebrated.
May 10—Oklahoma head coach Patty Gasso knows that in order for a team to experience a deep postseason run, it needs to be able to to win games in a variety of ways. The top-ranked Sooners have found plenty of ways to win en route to a 49-1 regular season record and a program-record 42-game winning streak, but Gasso still sees room for improvement.
