Ponca City High School athlete Gabe Roland was named the first-ever recipient of a newly created “Iron Man” award and was honored this week.

The award is to be given to athletes who have lettered in fall, winter and spring sports for the full four years of their high school career.

Roland is a four-year letterman in football, wrestling and soccer. The award was presented at this week’s soccer awards event and is sponsored by the booster clubs of each sport.

“Talented individuals who accomplish this feat demonstrate an extremely strong work-ethic, are very driven and dedicated and are passionate about sports and enjoy the challenge of competing at a high level in multiple disciplines,” were words said in connection with the award presentation. “Congratulations, Gabe!. You are an impressive student athlete and we are so proud of your accomplishments! Thank you to everyone who attended the presentation of this amazingly prestigious award.”
