So much history has been lost over the years. According to information published in Wikipedia, Burbank was founded in 1903 on the Osage Reservation. The founder was Anthony “Gabe: Carlton, a mixed-blood Osage and a Chouteau family descendant, who owned the townsite and named it after the artist E.A. Burbank (1858-1949) who spent his life painting the Indians of over 125 tribes. The now retired school building still is occupied. It had a bank that closed in 1948 but the building has was used by the United States Postal Service for 30 years then remodeled as a residence. In 1984, the bank building was placed on the National Register of Historic Places. There are so many memories that have been lost due to movement of families after the oil boom ended. The area experienced great growth from 1920 through 1930. Unfortunately, death of all the old-timers contributes to much of the past being just a memory. However, over the years the foresight of some very dedicated people led to the establishment of what we know as First Baptist Church of Burbank. August 14, 1932 was the beginning of what we enjoy today as a blessed community seeking to share the Good News from God’s Holy Word, the Bible. The church truly has been blessed to have called a number of men to be their Pastor. The Worship attendance has varied over the years. There were times that those attending wondered how they were going to be able to keep the doors open. But God is always faithful to those that stay faithful to Him. We may want to remember the past but it is imperative to live for today preparing for a better tomorrow. God is good, all the time and all the time, God is good because that is His nature.
