On Sunday and Monday evenings over 200 people got to look through some powerful amateur telescopes at the Ponca City RecPlex at the Planets Jupiter and Saturn as they were in conjunction. This event has been called the Christmas Star and was quite an event to see through a telescope of over 70 times magnification. The rings of Saturn as well as up to four of Jupiter’s moons were visible through the telescopes provided by Ponca City Astronomy. For the next week or so these planets will be visible in the West Southwest just after sunset.

Garfield Elementary School teachers have been handing out the gift bags and gift cards to their students and families. The gift bags and cards were purchased and donated to Garfield from their Partners In Education (PIE) Phillips 66. Garfield Principal Katy Thomason said, “Each of our students received a hat, gloves, snacks, Chapstick, and Homeland gift cards to help with groceries for Christmas dinner. We are blessed to have PIE partners that cares so much about the wellbeing of our students and staff.”
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma Announces 2020 Volunteer of the Year Oklahoma City, Okla. ‹ Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma (BCBSOK) has named employee Evelyn Cardona as the 2020 Volunteer of the Year. Cardona volunteered more than 75 hours throughout the year at several non-profits in the Oklahoma City area. She is a Caring Van program specialist for the Oklahoma Caring Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization funded by community contributions and administered by BCBSOK as an in-kind donation.
I have a bit of a confession to make, I don’t really watch a lot of Christmas movies and in general am not a fan of a lot of them. Now before the torches and pitchforks come out, I do enjoy the Rankin-Bass Christmas specials and I like Elf as well, but most just aren’t my thing.
Northern Oklahoma College Livestock Judging Coach Jennifer Bedwell announced the signing for Cleveland High School’s Douglas Hewitt to a National Letter of Intent. Hewitt signed last week on the NOC Tonkawa campus.
