WMS class creates food trucks

Students in Stacy Pinney’s Teen 2 class at West Middle School recently had the responsibility of grouping up and creating a food truck. Students had to completely design the truck, name the business, come up with a menu and stock the truck with specific food items, as well as the equipment needed to operate the truck.

Plant Protein

Having a more plant-forward diet is important for a lot of health reasons but leaving out meat altogether may not be best for children, teenagers, breastfeeding women and older Americans. In a study from the University of Illinois and Colorado State University, researchers found that the protein in plantbased burgers wasn’t digested as much as that found in meatbased burgers due to the concentration and digestibility of the amino acids.

Capitol Considerations

Good thing we got a jump start on committee work this session because the winter weather really threw a wrench in our plans this week. For everyone’s safety, the Senate was closed Wednesday and Thursday, meaning we had to cancel five committee meetings, including Appropriations, which typically has some of the longest agendas. This coming week, we’ll have to work fast to get through the remaining bills in committee to meet the March 3 deadline.

PHILADELPHIA — People with diabetes, especially those with the type 1 form of the disease, are at increased risk of broken bones. A key culprit seems to be a type of inflammation in the stem cells that are responsible for forming new bone.

Ponca City High School Girls Bowling Team Wins Regional Competition

The POHI Girl’s bowling team bowled their way in the State Finals where they will compete against teams from four other regional competitions. After bowling an eight-game positioning round and eliminating the Cushing team, the POHI team bowled against Stillwater team to determine the Regional Champions. POHI defeated the Stillwater team in a five-game contest, finishing the Regional Competition with a 3-2 victory. The POHI team will compete for the State Championship at Andy B;s in Tulsa.
