“Hidden Treasure”

Picture this—your family is standing outside your home as you watch it erupt in flames. If you had time to safely go get one thing that you own, ask yourself, what would you go get? Would it be a family heirloom, a piece of jewelry, a picture? Maybe you run in and grab your wedding dress or your grandfather’s pocket watch. What about the kid’s baby books? Ultimately, this question causes us to stop and think about what it is that we really treasure.

Cindy Wigley recipient of Soroptimist Region Lou Kirby Award

PONCA CITY, OK— Cindy Wigley, a member of the Soroptimist Club of Ponca City, was named the recipient of the Lou Kirby South Central Region Best Woman of the Year Award during the spring virtual region conference. Cindy was nominated by the Ponca City club and was selected from nominations made by clubs throughout the six-state region. She is the second recipient of this award from the Ponca City club, the first being Dorothy Dewan. Cindy was honored by the Ponca City Club during the May business meeting.

Returning the the genre that launched his film career, Zack Snyder has partnered with Netflix to release a brand new zombie films with a heist movie twist to it. This movie has no connection to Snyder’s 2004 Dawn of the Dead remake and is a standalone feature (though not for long, more on that later).

Signature event canceled by Tulsa Race Massacre centennial organizers

WASHINGTON - After 100 years, survivors of the Tulsa Race Massacre are still looking for justice, but a lack of education about the tragedy makes their plight even more challenging. “No one cared about us for almost 100 years,” said 107-year-old survivor Viola Fletcher on May 18, speaking before a House Committee on the Tulsa Race Massacre in Washington.

We’re back, and bigger and better than ever

We’re back, and bigger and better than ever. Members of the First United Methodist Church in Tonkawa are making final preparations for their 36th annual Thrift Sale. Since postponing last years sale due to Covid, the church has continued to take donations – and it is literally bursting at the seams. Pictured here from L to R are Marcie Shoulders, Sigrid Krause, Valerie Buss, and Debbie Randall who have worked tirelessly organizing and making sure items are priced to sell. The sale is scheduled for Friday, June 4th from 7 am to 7 pm, and Saturday, June 5th from 7 am to 4 pm. Culinary delights will be served for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and a Bake Sale is scheduled for Friday morning. Join us at 410 East Grand in Tonkawa.
