Wildcats suffer tough loss

In a game with highly regarded Sand Springs, the Ponca City Wildcats came away a 2-0 loser Monday night at the Po-Hi baseball field.

Sand Springs broke up a scoreless game with two runs in the fifth inning. Those two would be the only ones scored in the contest.

Brody Wicker was the starting pitcher for the Wildcats. He gave up only two hits and two earned runs while striking out eight. Wicker pitched five innings. Hayden LeClair finished up on the mound for Ponca City. He struck out one during his time on the hill.

Ponca City outhit the Sandites 4-2. Grant Harmon, Wicker, Colton Jones and Isaiah Branstetter had the four Ponca City hits. Wicker’s hit was a double.

Jabe Schlehuber pitched for Sand Springs. He struck out 13 Wildcats in seven innings of pitching.

Ponca City rallied in the seventh inning after two were out. Branstetter started the threat with a single to center. Harmon followed with a single and Wicker reached on an error to load the bases. But then Schlehuber was able to get a strikeout to end the threat and the game.

Sand Springs scored its two runs on a home run by Dom Ornelas in the fifth inning.

The two teams were scheduled to play again in Sand Springs on Tuesday. Ponca City’s record is now 4-6.
