Wildcats begin summer baseball schedule

ALVA -- The Ponca City Wildcats summer baseball team’s game against Enid was suspended in the third inning Tuesday night due to weather.

The two teams were playing at Northwestern Oklahoma State University and Enid was leading 4-1 at the time of the suspension.

Ponca City scored first, picking up its run in the second inning. Enid scored three in the second and had added one in the third.

The Wildcats were hampered by five errors. Enid outhit Ponca City 4-1.

Teegan Hodgson got the Wildcats’ only hit while leading off the second inning. He went all the way to second on an error and moved to third on a ground out by Colton Jones. Hayden LeClair drove Hodgson home with a sacrifice fly.

Aidan Howard, Dalton White and LeClair all saw time on the mound for Ponca City.

As of Wednesday morning no date had been set to finish Tuesday’s game.

The Wildcats opened the summer season last week with a 7-3 loss at Norman.

Norman scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth after Ponca City tied the score with one run in the top of the fifth.

Norman outhit Ponca City 9-3. Hodgson, Isaiah Branstetter and Dalton White each had a hit for the Wildcats. Howard was the starting pitcher for Ponca City and he worked two innings giving up a hit and an unearned run. Jackson Hunt, Colton Jones and Branstetter also saw time on the mound. Hunt was credited as the losing pitcher.

The Wildcats jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Ponca City scored both runs with five bases on balls. Jones led off with a walk. Covey and Branstetter each walked to load the bases and Hodgson walked to force in a run. A. J. Landes drew the fifth walk two outs later.

With two outs in the fifth, Landes and Hunt drew backto- back bases on balls and Landes scored on a single by White.
