WARR ACRES -- The Ponca City Wildcats’ boys basketball team fell in the opening round of the Class 6A Regional Tournament at Putnam City North High School Friday, and due to that loss saw its season come to an end.

Putnam North won the game 105-65. The Panthers were the second-ranked team in Class 6A’s East Region and had lost only once before Friday’s contest. It was a game between two familiar opponents as it was the third time the Oklahoma Big 7 teams had played this season. Putnam North had won the previous two meetings.

Friday, Putnam North rolled off 33 points in the first quarter and put good distance between itself and the Wildcats. The first quarter score was 33-12. The Panthers eased themselves through the remainder of the game, leading 85-42 after three quarters and the scoring 20 points in the final period to push past the 100-point mark.

Mason Meador led Ponca City’s scoring with 21 points. Trenton Monroy had 12 and Tay Moore had 11 for the Wildcats.

The loss dropped Ponca City’s final record for the season to 4-20.

Putnam City North went on to lose to another conference foe, Putnam City West on Saturday night, but still has life as it advances to the consolation bracket of the Area Tournament.
