Jonah Heim’s three-run walk-off home run in the 10th inning Tuesday gave the Texas Rangers an 8-5 victory over the Kansas City Royals at Globe Life Field.

“Whenever you can help your team win in any way it’s special,” said Heim, who was hitless in his first four atbats. “Tonight it was hitting a homer, tomorrow we’ll see what it is.”

Heim credited Adolis García and Josh Jung for getting the hits to set up his gamewinner.

“We don’t get there unless Adolis and Jung do their jobs so that’s a great team win right there and onto the next one.”

It was the Rangers’ first extra-innings game of the season. Ranger down Shortstop Corey Seager left the game in the fifth inning with left hamstring tightness after he hit a line drive down the left field line and hobbled on his way to second base.

“You hate to see it because He’s been on fire, he’s just been squaring up everything,“ said Rangers manager Bruce Bochy.

The Rangers are still without catcher Mitch Garver who was put on the 10-day injured list and center fielder Leody Taveras, who is working his way back to the big league club after an oblique injury.

Franchise record

Starter Jacob deGrom had another strong outing, allowing two runs on seven hits with no walks and nine strikeouts in seven innings.

DeGrom’s 27 strikeouts in his first three starts broke Nolan Ryan’s record of 26 set in 1989.

“He just has amazing command with the kind of stuff he has,” Bochy said. “You just don’t see it, he’s special. I enjoy watching Jacob when he pitches.”

Rangers home cooking The Rangers are 6-2 at home and have won two of their first three series at Globe Life Field. They have outscored opponents 55-29. The Rangers close out their three-game series against the Royals at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday at Globe Life Field.
