Twelve Blackwell wrestlers go to State

The Blackwell wrestling team are sending 12 athletes to the Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association Class 3A State Wrestling Tournament Friday and Saturday in the State Fair Arena, Oklahoma City.

Five of the Maroon wrestlers won their weight divisions at last week’s Western Regional Tournament. They include Jaxson Brown at 106; Beau Murphy, at 120; Kaiden Ailey at 126; Jake Miller at 132; and Kruz Goff at 190.

Finishing second were Lauden Wolfe at 113; Kasin O’Dell at 138; Jason Osgood at 175 and Kolby Looper at 215. Third place finishers were Grant Rowe at 144; and Lawson Lusk at 150. Rounding out the Blackwell state contingent is Justin McCleary who finished fourth at 285.

McCleary will participate in a wrestle-in bout. The first place finishers won’t know their opening round opponents until the wrestle-in matches are done. Wolfe is scheduled to open with Hudson Ferris of Lincoln Christian at 113; O’Dell is scheduled to open against Ty Thrasher of Lincoln Christian; Osgood is scheduled to open with Hayden Yochum of Bristow; Rowe is set to open against Cade Gilblert of Marlow; Lusk is set to open with Gavin Montgomery of Salisaw and Looper is set to open with Jordan Miller of Henryetta.

Other area wrestlers in the 3A Tournament include Brady Oldfield of Newkirk, third in the Regional at 113; Colton Mills, Newkirk, third in Regional 120; Grady Mitasch of Pawnee, 1st in Regional at 138; Xavier Braber of Pawnee, 3rd at 157; and Jaxon Wright of Morrison, first at 165.
