Continuing to dominate fellow Jayhawk Conference opponents, the No. 5-anked Cowley College wrestling team knocked off No. 19-ranked Colby Community College 51-4 and No. 11-ranked Neosho County 30-15 in a home dual Tuesday in Arkansas City.

In Tuesday’s other match, Neosho defeated Colby 36-15.

The Tigers had five pins and only one loss in the dominating 51-4 win over Colby.

“Anytime you can finish matches with falls is huge,” Cowley head coach Beau Vest said. “I am really happy with Tyler Bingham (197 pounds) and Jamal Miller Jr. (285 pounds) for picking up pins against some strong opponents.”

Austin Kincaid (125 pounds), Ryan Smith (133 pounds), and Matt Santos (184 pounds) also earned pins for the Tigers.

Cowley then returned to the mat to take on Neosho. The Panthers had an early 9-6 lead in the match against Cowley before the Tigers strung together five straight wins to pull away for the 30-15 victory.

“We are still rotating our lineup to see where our strongest lineup is, so I feel there were a few matches we could have won that we didn’t,” Vest said.

Santos won by fall over Neosho’s Logan Allen and is now 4-0 with four falls on the season. Fellow freshman Ryan Smith has also won each of his matches by fall.

“Those two are both wrestling with a lot of confidence and have the mindset of earning bonus points,” Vest said.

Freshman Austin Thornton also won by fall in the 285-pound weight class and is now 2-0 on the season.

Cowley, 4-0 in duals, will have some time off before competing at the Cloud County Dual Tuesday, February 9 at 7 p.m. in Concordia, KS. The Thunderbirds are currently ranked No. 20 in the latest NJCAA rankings.

“Although I was happy with our overall performance on Tuesday, we have some things to work on,” Vest said. “We want to get a little better each time we step on the mat.” Results vs. Colby:
