Spring football practice to open

Although the 2022-23 school year sports at Ponca City High School are coming to a close, an event that marks the beginning of a new sports year is scheduled to take place at Sullins Stadium next

week.

The event is the annual Spring Football drills, which Head Coach Scott Harmon notes will begin Monday.

Harmon said the first practice will get underway at 3:30 p.m. and will run until about 5.

The daily sessions will run for two weeks ending with a scrimmage on the evening of May 25.

The spring drills in effect, begin the process of coaches working with those team members who are expected to report in the fall for the official beginning of practice for the upcoming season. The first day of fall practice will be Aug. 7 (limited practice) with full practice beginning Aug. 11.

The football season for the Wildcats is scheduled to start Aug. 25 with a game at Guthrie. .

Ponca City won a playoff game for the first time in a long time and is looking to go deeper in the playoffs this season. The Wildcats play in a Class 6A-II district which includes Deer Creek of Edmond, Lawton, Putnam City North, Oklahoma City Capitol Hill, Putnam City Original, NW Classen and Choctaw.
