Ponca City’s varsity soccer teams split two matches with Bixby Tuesday night at Po-Hi’s Sullins Stadium.

The girls team went down to a 7-0 defeat. But the Wildcat boys continued their good play with a 3-1 victory.

The Wildcats scored all their goals in the second half. Israel Menchaca and Antonio Aguilar each scored a goal. The third Ponca City goal was an own goal from Bixby.

Goalkeeper Checho Aguilar had 12 saves for the Wildcats. The only goal against him was a penalty kick that he just missed saving.

“The guys fought hard all match,” Ponca City Coach Ben Steichen. “It was an even match for the first half that saw chances for both teams. But our guys showed great mentality to play within the game. We weren’t perfect individually, but we were a perfect team. The win puts us in a great sport for a shot at the playoffs. I couldn’t be happier for this team.

The Wildcats are 2-1 in district play and 8-3 overall. The next matches will be in Bartlesville Thursday.
