In a pair of matches Tuesday night at Sullins Stadium, the boys team shut out Woodward after the Lady Cats lost in a girls match.

The Ponca City girls lost 2-0. Woodward scored both goals in the first half and Ponca City was able to shut the visitors down in the second half without a goal.

The Wildcats defeated Woodward 4-0. after leading 1-0 at the half.

Malachi Johnson scored on a free kick in the first half.

In the second half, Cayden Andersen led off the scoring on an assist by Angel Valencia. That was followed by a goal by Elijah Kreisler on an assist by Gabe Roland and Israel Menchaca scored the final Ponca City goal on an assist by Roland.

“The guys were locked in and ready,” Coach Ben Steichen said about his team’s effort. “It was probably the most complete and dominant win I’ve been a part of in a long time. I couldn’t be more thrilled for them.

“We played aggressive and selfless and that really put Woodward on their heels. Our midfield controlled the game and their quick play allowed for us to open up the field and attack their defense with different options. It was a solid way to come back from break.”

The two Ponca City teams will play next in the Stillwater Cup tournament Friday and Saturday.
