Fede Federiko and Nick Cham scored 17 points each as the Mavs won the first round of Bedlam 75-63 at the Mabee Center.

The Mavs (8-3) improved to 3-0 in conference while the Jets (3-7) fell to 0-3.

“I thought our guys handled the hostile environment well,” said coach Brad Witherspoon. “That place isn’t an easy place to play. “Our game plan was to go inside early and often and thought we bought into that. (Fede) Federiko and Nick (Cham) played really well.”

The Mavs trailed the Jets 14-13 midway in the first half, then went on a 26-13 run to end the half building a 39-27 lead.

NOC Tonkawa then went on a 9-2 run early in the second half building a 48-29 lead but the Jets battled back with a 12-2 run of their own to get back in the game.

The Jets made one final push cutting the lead to 56-49 with 9:39 left but the Mavs answered with a 15-5 run building the lead to 71-54.

NOC Tonkawa travels to Labette (KS) on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
