Lady Cats lose four in tourney

CHICKASHA -- The Ponca City Lady Cats picked up four losses in the very tough Chickasha Tournament over the weekend. On Friday Yukon defeated the softball Lady Cats 9-0, while on Saturday is was Newcastle topping Ponca City 7-6. plus a 4-1 loss to Lawton Eisenhower and a 9-3 loss to Carl Albert.

Yukon dominated the Friday game outhitting Ponca City 12-4. Getting the hits for the Lady Cats were Savannah Clark, Margaret Blackstar, Alex Zimmerschied and Haley Swinford.

Libby Clark pitched for Ponca City and she gave up 12 hits and eight earned runs. She struck out one and walked three.

Saturday, Newcastle came from behind to win in the bottom of the sixth. Ponca City had scored twice in the top-half of the frame and led 6-5. But then Newcastle bounced back with two runs in the bottom half of the inning to walk off with the win.

Ponca City had nine hits with Tori Freeman, Allanah Florez each getting two and Taylin Fry, Taylor McMartin, Libby Clark, Zimmerschied and Swinford each getting one. With triples were Zimmerschied and Florez and Libby Clark had a double. Libby Clark pitched for Ponca City and allowed 15 hits and seven earned runs. She struck out two and walked none.

In Saturday’s second game, Eisenhower scored a run in the first, two in the third and one in the fourth, while Ponca City scored once in the sixth. The Lady Cats had four hits. Libby Clark had two of the hits, Madelyn Blackstar had one and Zimmerschied had one. Zimmerschied’s hit was a double. Savannah Clark pitched for Ponca City and she gave up 10 hits and three earned runs while walking one.

In the final game of the tournament, Carl Albert led all the way with four runs in the first, one in the second, one in the third and three in the fifth. Ponca City scored one in the first and two in the third. The Lady Cats had eight hits including two by Margaret Blackstar, two by Madelyn Blackstar, two by Florez and one each by Freeman and Savannah Clark. Madelyn Blackstar had two doubles.

Libby Clark was Ponca City’s pitcher and she gave up 12 hits and eight earned runs while striking out two and walking three.

The losses drops Ponca City’s record to 10-23.
