Frontier, Shidler still playing in postseason

Both teams from Frontier High School and the girls team from Shidler are still alive in Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association Area Tournaments.

Frontier’s girls are in the winners bracket in the Enid Class A Area Tournament, while the Frontier boys are in the consolation bracket of the Enid tourney. Shidler’s girls are in the consolation bracket of the Henryetta Area event.

Frontier’s girls defeated Garber 48-43 Saturday night in Frontier’s gym to advance. They will play Seiling at 6 p.m. Friday in Enid, with the winner advancing to the State Tournament. The loser will continue to play, only in the consolation bracket.

The Frontier boys were beaten by Okay 73-46 Saturday at Frontier. They will play Laverne at 3 p.m. Thursday in Enid in the consolation bracket. The winner will advance to the next round, with the loser going home.

Shidler’s girls defeated Kinta 44-38 Friday in Checotah and then beat Glencoe 44-29 Saturday to move to the Area Tournament’s consolation bracket. They are scheduled to play Calvin at 6 p.m. Thursday in Henryetta in an elimination game.

In Class 3A District Tournaments over the weekend, Alva defeated Newkirk 66-37 and Chisholm defeated Blackwell 32-30 in boys competition, while Alva defeated Newkirk 41-11 and Chisholm defeated Blackwell 44-33 in girls competition.

All Class 3A teams advanced to the Regional Tournaments, with last week’s losing teams playing in consolation brackets. In boys tournaments, Newkirk will play Perry at 3 p.m. Thursday in Perry and Blackwell will play Luther at 3 p.m. at Chisholm. In girls tournaments, Newkirk will play Cascia Hall at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in Perry while Blackwell will play Crooked Oak at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Chisholm.

In Class 2A District Tournaments last week, Pawnee’s boys defeated Morrison 75-65 and Morrison’s girls topped Pawnee 71-28.

The Pawnee boys will play Preston at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the Regional winners bracket at Preston. The Morrison girls will play Preston at 6 p.m. Thursday at Preston in the winners’ bracket.

In the Class 2A Regional losers brackets, Morrison’s boys will play Mounds at 3 p.m. at Preston and the Pawnee girls will play Mounds at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in Preston.
