Enid defeats baseball Wildcats

Enid defeated Ponca City 8-2 Saturday in the final home baseball game of the year for the Wildcats.

Enid scored a run in the first inning only to see the Wildcats even things up in the bottom of the frame. The visiting Plainsmen then scored twice in the third, three times in the fourth and added two more in the fifth. Ponca City scored its final run in the bottom of the seventh.

Brody Wicker was the starting pitcher for the Wildcats. He pitched 3.2 innings and allowed eight hits and six earned runs, while striking out four and walking three. Zeke Branstetter also pitched for Ponca City, working 3.1 innings. He allowed seven hits and one earned run while striking out one and walking one.

Enid out hit the Wildcats 15-7. Wicker had two of Ponca City’s hits. With one hit apiece were Carson Williams, Corey Marazas, Tabron Stanton, Nate Harbeson and Jacob Leonard.

In the Ponca City first inning, Grant Harmon was hit by a pitch to lead off for the Wildcats. Wicker followed with a single, moving Harmon to second. A walk to Marazas loaded the bases and Hunter Freeman was hit by a pitch to move Harmon across the plate.

In the seventh, Leonard led off with a single. He moved around the bases to score on three passed balls.

The game closed out the regular season for Ponca City. The Wildcats finished the regular season with an 8-22 record.
