In a match involving two ranked teams, the Choctaw Yellowjackets got past the host Ponca City Wildcats 40-27 Tuesday night in Robson Field House.

Choctaw was ranked No. 6 and Ponca City No. 8 in the latest Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association rankings.

It was close throughout, with Choctaw leading by one, 28-27, going into the final two matches of the evening. However, the Yellowjackets won each of those matches by fall to cement their win.

Ponca City’s Chris Kiser started things off right for his team by winning his match at 106 pounds by a fall in the first period. Two other Wildcats won by falls, Rayden Agee at 170 and Gabe Roland at 182.

Other Wildcats who posted wins were Cam Kiser, an 11-4 decision at 120; Tanner Greenfield, 8-1 decision at 152 and Landon Newlin, 7-5 decision at 195.

Choctaw earned five falls during the dual, which was Ponca City’s senior night.

Thursday, the Wildcats will face an ever higher ranked opponent when they hit the road for a dual against Stillwater.

The Pioneers are ranked No. 2 in the OSSAA rankings and No. 1 in another poll.
