Baseball Wildcats lose to Sapulpa

In a district game played at the Po-Hi baseball field Monday, the Sapulpa Chieftains defeated Ponca City 5-0.

It was senior night and Wildcat seniors Hunter Freeman and Nate Harbeson were recognized. The contest was a district game.

Sapulpa scored a run in the first inning and never trailed. The Chieftains added a run in the second and three in the third.

Brody Wicker was the starting pitcher for Ponca City. He allowed three hits and no earned runs in his six innings on the hill. He struck out six and walked four. Freeman pitched the seventh inning and had two strikeouts.

There wasn’t much hitting in this game. Sapulpa earned three hits, while Ponca City had two.

Tabron Stanton, who beat out an infield single in the second, had one of the Wildcat hits. Brett Haney had the other Wildcat hit.

In the fourth inning Stanton reached base with two outs after being hit by a pitch. Haney followed with a single and Freeman reached on an error. The threat ended with Stanton being thrown out at the plate attempting to score on the error.

Another Ponca City scoring threat came in the sixth when Stanton and Haney each reached base on walks.

Two of Sapulpa’s three hits were doubles. Ponca City committed five errors.

The loss dropped Ponca City’s record to 3-12. Ponca City and Sapulpa were scheduled to play again on Tuesday night in Sapulpa.
