Baseball Wildcats celebrate seniors

Seniors were honored Saturday at the Ponca City Wildcats’ game with Putnam City West at the Po-Hi baseball field.

Putnam West put a damper on the celebration as they shut out Ponca City 4-0. It was a complete shutdown of the Wildcat bats as West outhit the home team 7-0. Putnam West scored one in the third, one in the fifth and two in the seventh innings.

Four Ponca City seniors were recognized at the game. The four are Blake Dailey, Grant Harmon, Jacob Leonard and Jaxon Testa, Aidan Howard was the starting pitcher for Ponca City. He allowed five hits and one run while striking out eight. Teegan Hodgson pitched the final three innings for the Wildcats. He gave up two hits and two earned runs while striking out four.

Titan Bute reached first base on an error in the fourth inning for the Wildcats, but did not advance. Testa walked in the fifth inning, but was stranded on base. Those were the only Ponca City base runners.

The Wildcats dropped to 9-24 on the season. They were scheduled to play district opponent Jenks on Monday and Tuesday.

(Friday Game) GUTHRIE 9, PONCA CITY 8

GUTHRIE -- In a 13-inning affair Friday, the Guthrie Blue Jays outscored the Ponca City Wildcats 9-8.

Guthrie scored the winning run in the bottom of the 13th on a double, intentional walk, walk and single. The score was tied 5-5 at the end of the regulation seven innings.

Ponca City scored three runs in the top of the 12th, only to have Guthrie score three in their half of the inning.

Colton Jones was the starting pitcher for Ponca City, Hayden LeClair relieved in the seventh and Titan Bute pitched the 13th. Bute was credited with the loss.

Both teams had 13 hits. Jones and Bute each had three hits for the Wildcats. Grant Harmon and Brody Wicker each had two hits and with one each were Jaxon Testa, Teegan Hodgson and Jacob Leonard. Jones had the only extra-base hit, a double.

The Wildcats scored one in the first and two in the second innings to lead 3-0. Guthrie tied the score with three in the fourth. Ponca City then scored two in the fifth, only to have Guthrie score two in the seventh to send the game into extra innings. Both teams picked up three runs in the 12th.
