On Monday, February 20, 2023, Sandra Jean Bothwell Martin, our mother, mimi and gran-mimi peacefully passed away in her home joining her husband, George C. Martin who preceded her in death in 2012. She was surrounded by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Sandra was born on February 23, 1936 in Ponca City, Oklahoma to James and Arneva Bothwell. She graduated from Ponca City High School. In 1954, she married the love of her life, George Martin. They were blessed with 2 children, 3 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. They were together for 57 years.

Sandra was a dedicated wife and mother first and foremost. She treasured her children and embraced every moment with them. As her children started their own families, she loved her role as Mimi to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Surviving family is Arneva Martin-Reames, daughter, Johnny Reames, son-in-law, James “Bud” Martin, son and Margie Martin, daughterin- law and her precious fur baby, Lucy Lou. Grand children Wesley Martin Pittman, Marissa Leigh Pittman and Katherine Allyse “Katie” Martin along with great grandchildren, Allyse Marie “Ally” Cassady and Elaina Ann Pittman.

In her earlier years, she and George were square dancers and campers travelling to many places around the U.S. Some of her favorite places were the Black Hills of South Dakota, South Padre, Alaska and lake time at Ponca City Lake where we spent years of weekends together. Throughout the years, she loved to sew just about anything from clothes for her family to curtains to costumes to doll clothes. She also loved to bake breads and desserts which explains why her family has such a huge, sweet tooth!

With her signature purple streaked, silver hair, she was a vivacious personality who always made people around her laugh. Sandra had a variety of jobs, but the ones she loved most were those with CASA helping children in adverse situations, County Election Services, Class of ‘54 Reunion Committee and substitute teacher in the Ponca City ISD.

Sooner born and Sooner bred, mom and dad! We love and miss you every day. You will remain in our hearts and minds as long as we live, and we’ll keep the family stories alive!

Our family will be laying her to rest next to her husband at IOOF Cemetery, 1206 S. Waverly Street, Ponca City, Oklahoma. A graveside celebration of life will be held during this time, and all friends and family are welcome to join us. The date and will be released soon on the Grace Memorial Chapel website at https://www. gracememorialchapel.net/ obituary/Sandra-Martin.

We would like to express our sincere appreciation to the entire Hospice team for providing the most warm and caring support to mom and our family. They made a very difficult time much easier for all of us.
