Raymond O. Johns of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died on Saturday, October 22, 2022, in the Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City at the age of 79 years.

Raymond O. Johns was born on November 23, 1942, in Blackwell to John J. and Lornine M. (Duvalt) Johns. He grew up in Blackwell and graduated from Blackwell High School in 1960. While in high school he married Gladys Fay Chamberlain on October 31, 1959, in Wichita, Kansas, and they made Blackwell their home. He worked for the Blackwell Zinc Company and Acme Foundry before beginning at Conoco in 1969 where worked as an instrument technician. He retired after twenty-six years in 1995. After traveling the country, he returned to work teaching instrumentation at Northern Oklahoma College in Tonkawa. He enjoyed taking and learning various trades such as refrigeration, welding, electrician, computer programming and bricklaying. He also took ground school and flying lessons and earned his private pilot’s license. He held membership in the First Christian Church and the Elk’s Lodge.

He is survived by his wife, Gladys of Blackwell; a daughter, Christina “Tina” Ebert of Blackwell; a son, David Johns and his wife Christine of Perkins; a sister, Sandy Clark of Springfield, Missouri; grandchildren, Felicia Mader and husband Robert of Parade, South Dakota, Fowler Hata and husband Roysuke of Edmond, and Jessica McClaflin and husband Kenneth of Blackwell; step-grandchildren, Kevin Ehrenberg of Montivido, Minnesota, and Jason Reinert of Duluth, Minnesota; two great grandchildren; and three step great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Robert and Melvin Johns; a granddaughter, Danielle Johns; and a step granddaughter, Dayne Ehrenberg.

A memorial service is scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 26th in the First Christian Church in Blackwell with Rev. Jeff Koch officiating. Interment will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.

A memorial has been established in his honor with the First Christian Church – Funeral Dinner Fund in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma 74631.
